The heart of Olive In A Box is a real, living olive tree — not an illustration, not a plastic version, but an actual little tree with roots that can keep growing for years after it lands with the recipient.

Where does it come from?

Your olive tree is planted and grown at a carefully chosen, family-owned plant producer in Málaga, Spain, that has been in business since 1953. We've deliberately chosen to work with a producer that combines generations of experience with modern, responsible horticulture and certifications such as GlobalGAP, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Size and age on arrival

The tree you receive is a young plant in a decorative pot — big enough to already have real character and small leaves, but small enough to thrive on a windowsill, a balcony or a table. It's the same species, Olea europaea, as the olive trees that can live for several hundred years across the Mediterranean.

How to take care of it

The olive tree doesn't need much: plenty of light (ideally the brightest spot in the home), water once the soil has dried out, and a little patience. It's fine outdoors during the Danish summer, but should come inside once temperatures drop below freezing.

A tree that grows over time

With the right care, the tree can potentially be moved into a larger pot over the years and become a beautiful, permanent part of the home — a living memory that, unlike a bouquet of flowers, actually keeps on growing.
